Steve Szabo

Steve Szabo began as a freelance photographer in Washington while working with a small newspaper in the Caribbean. After studying at the Art Center in Las Angeles, he became the youngest staff photographer at the Washington Post. He covered every demonstration and riot during the violent times of the civil rights which was prominent in Washington D.C. He won top prizes for his feature photography but retreated to the Eastern Shore after witnessing so much violence.
During this time, he became interested in platinum printing. (Rendering a print on rag paper to include the fine etching.) He then moved to Maryland to capture the tranquil yet haunting scenes of nature. Szabo was both an accomplished photographer as well as a writer. On his sojourn, he wrote a book titled the Eastern Shore, including photographs and writings of his experience. He returned to D.C. and taught Photography at the Corcoran School of Art until he died in May 2000.
